The Day the Calendar Was Cleared
Friday the 13th has long carried a reputation that suggests caution, second thoughts, or imagined misfortune. However, in our teaching we know this date is spiritually neutral, holding no inherent meaning or influence of its own. In the Science of Mind textbook Dr. Holmes wrote, “There is no power in things; there is only power in consciousness.” A calendar square cannot generate outcomes, assign fortune, or direct events. Meaning arises only when thought assigns it. A number remains a number, and a day remains a day, until belief gives it significance.
As students of Principle, we know that Life responds to consciousness, not coincidence. When someone entertains an idea repeatedly, experience naturally organizes itself around that expectation. When somebody anticipates ease, clarity, and support, the Law responds in kind. Esther Hicks said, “Nothing can come into your experience unless you summon it through persistent thought.” Friday the 13th gains influence only when belief invites it in. Without that invitation, the date simply expresses the same intelligence, order, and creative flow present at all times!
From this awareness we understand that Friday the 13th becomes an opportunity rather than a concern. When a person consciously chooses confidence, humor, and spiritual authority, old superstitions are not given a second thought. The day becomes a quiet reminder that thought leads, consciousness directs, and Life faithfully responds. In Religious Science, every date is governed by the same loving Law, and every moment is equally available for clarity, success, connection, and joy. When belief up-levels, the story transforms, and Friday the 13th is recognized as being just a number on the page.
